This couple chose an all-white barn as a blank slate for their citrus-themed event, which incorporated fruits (naturally!), ombré elements, and plenty of florals.

Evie and Joe met at summer camp in May 2014, where they were both counselors. Although the pair attended separate colleges, they spent their summers together year after year, and in the fall of 2017, they officially started dating. Fast forward to November 2018, when Joe took Evie to one of their favorite spots in Dallas: Klyde Warren Park. "Out of nowhere, he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him," Evie recalls. "He makes fun of me because instead of saying 'yes', I said 'yay!'"

The couple chose June 2, 2019, to tie the knot and invited 200 guests to White Sparrow Barn in Quinlan, Texas, to share in their big day. Ironically, the duo chose the local venue for its lovely outdoor ceremony space, but a last-minute change forced an unexpected switch—they ultimately needed to host their nuptials (complete with a flower-lined aisle and a vibrant altar structure) on a different area of the property. Luckily, Evie and Joe ended up liking that space even more.

The rest of the all-white barn provided a blank slate for the event's design, so Evie and Joe enlisted the help of Lindsey Brunk to help them realize their vision of a summer citrus-themed celebration through an explosion of colorful florals, plenty of fun food stations (including a popsicle stand!), and ombré details. "It was so fun to dream up different ideas and see how Lindsey brought them to life," the bride says. "I'm a big picture dreamer, so working with Lindsey made it so easy and fun."

Ombré Invitations

Credit: Becca Lea Photography

Evie and Joe wanted their invitations to show guests how bright, fun, and modern their celebration would be, so they selected a pink-and-orange ombré watercolor suite from Minted. The envelopes featured a floral design on the liner; these hinted at the event's flower-focused design. They also enlisted Fig and Flourish to address each note with gold calligraphy—the final touch.

A Dream Dress

Credit: Becca Lea Photography

Evie invited her mom to help her search for the perfect wedding dress. "This was by far my favorite shopping experience with her," she says. "It was just us two. We made several appointments, and made a day out of it complete with brunch!" When Evie tried on her V-neck Alexandra Grecco gown with floral appliqué detailing, she didn't want to take it off.

The Details

To complete her bridal look, Evie selected a cathedral length veil, also from Alexandra Grecco, earrings (a gift from her parents), and an antique gold bracelet that once belonged to her great-grandmother. She also tucked soft orange-and-pink flowers into her hair, tying her ensemble to the event's color scheme.

The Wildflower Lined Aisle

Credit: Becca Lea Photography

Evie's vision for the wedding day was fun and whimsical, says her planner, Lindsey Brunk. "From our first meeting, she told me she wanted an explosion of color and for her guests to have an unforgettable experience," she explains. "Knowing we had a clean, white backdrop of the barn as our venue, we immediately started her design process with the florals."

Evie and Joe worked with Max Owen Designs to create a wildflower aisle installation. The result? A "wow" moment that set the tone for the rest of the ceremony.

Pops for All

Evie and Joe skipped their cocktail hour to take portraits, as guests enjoyed chips and queso and margaritas, their signature cocktail. The couple, did, however, head over to their popsicle cart, which served strawberry, blackberry, mango, and lime ice pops, before slipping away for photos.

Floral Escort Cards

Credit: Becca Lea Photography

Creating the escort card display was one of the hardest parts of the planning process, says the bride. Fabric that mimicked the ombré invitations was bolted to a long board and adorned with two cascading flower arrangements. Small white cards were printed with each guest's name and table assignment—and embellished with a fresh flower.

Happy Head Table

Credit: Becca Lea Photography

The flower-embellished ceremony arch was brought into the barn and positioned behind the head table, which sat 32 guests. Additional round tables were topped with blue linens from La Tavola, providing a pop of color to the space. Along with lush floral centerpieces, each table was dotted with fruits as a nod to the citrus theme.

The First Dance

Credit: Becca Lea Photography

Guests enjoyed fajitas for dinner, followed by speeches and dancing. Evie and Joe shared their first married spin to "Swept Away" by The Avett Brothers. "It is one of our favorite bands and we love that song!" Evie says. "We had danced to it many times before, so it felt fitting."

A Sweet Ending

Credit: Becca Lea Photography

The couple's confection included vanilla cake with lemon and raspberry filling, and red velvet layers with cream cheese icing.

Evie has some wisdom to pass on to couples currently planning their weddings: "Have fun, don't sweat the small stuff, stay true to your personalities—and hire this vendor dream squad."
