Ellie Goulding Surprised a Couple with a Heartfelt Serenade During Their Zoom Wedding
The singer performed her hit single, "Love Me Like You Do," for the newlyweds' first dance.
Many couples are turning to virtual weddings to tie the knot while self-quarantining—but one duo in particular got a special surprise before they were pronounced husband and wife over Zoom. According to Billboard, Ellie Goulding popped into a United Kingdom couple's virtual wedding to congratulate them and perform one of her biggest hits. "Congratulations, Harvey and Hayley," she said before singing "Love Me Like You Do" to the couple. "You're both heroes and we all love you."
The performance was brought to life by the For Better For Worse organization in honor of the bride's service as a National Health Service nurse. As for the choice in song? Hayley was planning to walk down the aisle to the ballad on her wedding day.
This moment was likely a special one for Goulding, too, as she married husband Casper Jopling just last fall. After a year-and-a-half of dating, the couple decided to take that step towards marriage and revealed the news in a unique way: They placed an announcement in London's The Times newspaper, People reported.
After their year-long engagement—and four wedding dresses later—Goulding and Jopling officially tied the knot at the York Minister Cathedral in Yorkshire, England. After a star-studded affair, with everyone from Princess Eugenie to Katy Perry in attendance, Goulding commemorated her big day in an Instagram post: "This weekend I married the love of my life, in God's own country, surrounded by the people I cherish. Overwhelmed with gratitude."
