It all depends on what kind of kind of party you have in mind.

Your bachelorette party is meant to celebrate a life milestone: the transition from your single days to your future as a married woman. That being said, there are as many ways to celebrate your bachelorette as there are bridal styles, from ultra-chill spa getaways to celebratory party nights out on the town. Most importantly, your bachelorette party is a chance for you to spend quality time with your closest friends-namely, your bridal party and a few other close friends or family members. But should your mom (or future mother-in-law) be invited, too?

By no means are you obligated to invite the moms to your bachelorette party, but if the event is going to be more of a relaxed affair, something your mom or future MIL might enjoy, then consider asking them along. A spa day, wine tasting, or a fun class, like flower arranging or your favorite workout, are all activities most moms would enjoy being part of. Even if you're all planning to hit the town by night, inviting the moms to join in the fun is absolutely fine, so long as the events aren't anything that would make her blush.

Plus, she can always join for dinner and then head home on the early side, or whenever she's ready to go. (This is what car service apps were invented for.) If your bachelorette is going to be a weekend-long event that's taking place out of town, it's best to keep the invite list to your besties and bridesmaids-the tighter the group, the better the dynamics will be.

If your mom or future mother-in-law asks if she can attend the festivities and you're entirely uncomfortable with the possibility, there's an easy solution. Be tactful but firm in your explanation that it's important to have this quality time together with your closest friends. Offer her an alternative: What if the two of you plan your own mother-daughter fun day at a spa, a ladies' lunch and shopping date, or dinner and a concert? It's quality time with you that she really wants!
