Agreeing to be the maid of honor for your sister, cousin, or friend is one of the highest honors you can accept. While it's a fun job, you probably already know that it also comes with a lot of responsibility. The best way to tackle everything that needs to happen before and during the ceremony and reception is to stay organized. Here are some helpful tips to ensure everything stays on track and that you're the best head attendant ever.

Keep Constant Communication and Take Notes

You don't want the bride to feel like she has to plan everything. Keep in constant communication with her so that you are always in the know about what's happening and what's not. Keep a small planner to help remember important dates or special notes that the bride may bring up. She'll appreciate your attention to detail when you ultimately plan the most flawless bridal shower or bachelorette party, or when you turn up at her dress fitting without her having to remind you.

Have Contact Information

As the maid of honor, you'll need contact information for most everyone in the bridal party-on both sides of the aisle!-as well as any key vendors. Since you'll be helping to plan the bridal shower and bachelorette party, you will need emails and phone numbers of the rest of the bridesmaids to coordinate.

Accompany the Bride to Appointments as Needed

Get out that trusty planner-in addition to shopping for bridesmaids' dresses, your bride may ask you to join her for a few appointments, like meetings with the stationer, venue, or florist. While it may not be possible for you to attend any and every meeting, you should make an effort to be there for those that she'd really like your help with.

Be in Contact with the Wedding Planner/Coordinator

Aside from the bride and groom, you should be the person who knows as much as possible about what will happen on the wedding day. When will the florist arrive with the bouquets? What time does the bride need to be ready for portraits? When will the couple cut their cake? Keep in contact with the wedding planner so that the two of you can work together to make sure the wedding day is filled with happy moments and no hiccups. The wedding planner may be great, but you know the bride better than anyone else.
