Michelle Levinson says that ever since she was a teenager, it had been her dream to wear a Vera Wang dress on her wedding day. So when the time came, she knew exactly where she wanted to go to choose a dress, bringing Martha Stewart weddings editor Darcy Miller along to offer opinions and advice.
Michelle chose a dress with delicate, crystal-beaded ferns (a motif throughout her wedding) embroidered onto the bodice. The smooth, clean lines of her skirted gown begin with an overlay of French silk tulle, followed by several layers of tissue and silk organza as well as white horsehair sewn into the hem to add definition. Beneath the gown were three layers of petticoats made from net and organza, all contributing to a dress that flares into a flowing circular silhouette and tapers slightly to a small chapel-length train.
