Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Sent Idris Elba an Incredibly Generous Wedding Present
The $9,000 gift was beyond thoughtful.
Following their three-day wedding weekend, Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre are finally married. The couple tied the knot on April 26 in a black-tie celebration in Marrakesh, Morocco, reports British Vogue. Although Meghan Markle and Prince Harry-who has a longstanding bond with the actor-weren't able to attend (the result of the Duchess' impending due date), they sent their best wishes and a rather expensive wedding present to the newlyweds.
According to the Mail on Sunday, rather than gifting the happy duo something off the registry, the royal couple chose a $7,800 painting by the Connors Brothers. The work, a romantic 1950s-style book cover featuring a glamorous woman, is overlayed with the words: "Why fit in when you were born to stand out?"
The two couples have been friends for quite some time-Elba even DJ'ed the royal wedding back in 2018. "Harry came to a couple of parties that I DJ'ed, and he was like, 'Hey man, what are you doing on the date,' and I was like, 'Nothing,'" Elba told Ellen back in March. "He goes, 'Hmm, would you DJ at my wedding?' I was like, 'Is this a joke? Are you joking?' And he's like, 'Serious.'"
Though it was for good reason, Markle and Prince Harry definitely missed out on Elba and Dhowre's three-day-long party, which took place at at the lavish Mandarin Oriental. The wedding itself featured an outfit change from the bride: For the ceremony Dhowre stunned in an A-line off-the-shoulder Vera Wang number. For the reception, she slipped into V-neck style embroidered dress from the same designer with pearls and gemstones and finished with couture lace. The groom wore a bespoke suit by Ozwald Boateng.
