Bridal Beauty Diaries: Lauren – A Happy Ending
I can't believe it's already over! I have completed my Invisalign® treatment and couldn't be more pleased with the results. My bottom teeth have never been this straight and it only took ten aligners. Now that my Invisalign treatment is complete, Dr. Collins is helping me make a couple of other adjustments to my smile. The two teeth on either side of my front teeth are covered in a composite material that was originally done about 15 years ago. Dr. Collins will be "re-doing" these teeth with new composite material. I will also be having my baby tooth covered with a veneer to look like its twin on the other side of my smile. Buh-bye, baby tooth! I can't wait until everything is totally finished! But at the same time, I'm anxious about how everything will turn out-will I look different? Hopefully, if I do, it will be in a good way.
After Dr. Collins makes those last adjustments mentioned above, he will take impressions of my new smile for a retainer. To maintain my new smile, he advised that I wear the retainer like I would regular Invisalign aligners for 22 hours per day for three months. This is to make sure nothing shifts out of its new position. After the three months, I can switch to only wearing the retainer at night while sleeping.
It's interesting when I reflect on my journey with Invisalign: at first, the aligners were a little painful for me. I think this was because I had never had braces before and wasn't used to that sort of feeling on my teeth. It was also a little freaky that your teeth feel a bit loose while going through the treatment. But after the first few aligner sets, I was a pro. The only time I ever experienced a little discomfort was when first switching to a new aligner set before bed, but the discomfort was gone by the next morning. At this point, I was also accustomed to the discipline required for the treatment-brushing and flossing after every meal, only drinking water with the aligners in, and wearing the aligners for 22 hours per day. I saw a noticeable difference in my smile by the third month, which is really fast when I think about it now.
I am so excited to be finished. The timing couldn't be better with the holidays coming up and the wedding right around the corner. The only items remaining on the wedding to-do list are small details like the guest book, cake knife and serving set, guest seating chart, and menus. Through the cake tastings, wedding dress fittings, and other vendor appointments, my Invisalign treatment never held me back. I feel so fortunate to have undergone this treatment as opposed to traditional braces. After seeing me go through the process, even my fiancé, Tony, is considering Invisalign for himself.
