This Is Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham's Secret to a Long-Lasting Relationship
He supports the philanthropist in all she does.
Stedman Graham is opening up about his and Oprah Winfrey's secret to a successful decades-long relationship. While on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the author revealed that to have a strong, long-lasting partnership, it's important to have your own aspirations and understand your own identity. Graham tributes this balance to his 33-year-long commitment to Winfrey.
"Well, the thing about our relationship is, so I'm dedicated to her happiness," Graham told DeGeneres. "I want her to be the best she can possibly be and she's done a pretty good job of doing that." Graham noted that he's been able to discover and pursue his own happiness and talents, as well. "When you have a good partner that is able to self actualize their potential and you're able to self actualize yours," you're able to thrive together, he says.
In fact, Graham is so supportive of Winfrey, he believes she'd make a great president. Although the media mogul confirmed she wouldn't be running in the 2020 election, Graham is sure "she has the qualifications to do it." He went onto explain how her trustworthiness, photographic memory, and hard-working personality would make her a strong national leader.
Winfrey and Graham first met in 1986 at a charity event-and have been together ever since. The couple actually credits not getting married to the survival of their relationship, as well. Winfrey told Vogue that if the two had tied the knot, they wouldn't have stayed together. According to Winfrey, Graham's idea of what it means to be husband and wife is "pretty traditional" and she "would not have been able to fit into that."
