Barry Manilow Is Finally Talking About His Emotional Wedding Day
Barry Manilow is finally ready to talk about his decades-long relationship with manager Garry Kief-and the couple's intimate 2014 wedding day. The Grammy award-winning singer opened up about his own personal love story, sharing all the details of his previously lonely life in the spotlight and how everything changed in 1978 when he met Kief, then a television executive. "I knew that this was it," Manilow says in an interview with People. "I was one of the lucky ones."
He went on to talk about how Kief didn't even know what Manilow did when they first met, despite the fact that the performer was already churning out hit after hit, like his breakout ballad "Mandy," and the award-winning "Copacabana (At the Copa)." "He was a guy, and I was a guy, so we could just deal with each other like two normal people," Manilow explained. "Not like a superstar and a person."
The couple has been together-both romantically and professionally-ever since, with Kief now serving as Manilow's manager. With 39 years of love under their belts, it's clear this romance is here to stay, a fact only confirmed by the pair's private, intimate 2014 wedding. "I didn't think it was going to be that emotional," Manilow says of the event, which was held at their 53-acre Palm Springs estate. "It was deeper than we thought it was going to be, looking at each other, saying, 'I love you' in front of people."
"We've been married all these years," Manilow continued, referring to the nearly four decades that he and Kief have spent together. "It's just that it became legal. Thank goodness we're still together, and we're in good shape, too." If this isn't one of the sweetest love stories we've ever heard, we're not sure what is. Congratulations to these long-term lovebirds! We wish them many more happy years together.
