This Romantic, Tuscan-Inspired Wedding in California Embraced the Surrounding Wine Country
Erica and Tyler's love story is as classic as their April 27, 2019, wedding: The couple met in high school and quickly became sweethearts after an idyllic night at their junior winter formal. After school, the pair lived apart, often in different cities, but Erica says that they have both "always been there to support one another in times of need and times of joy."
When Tyler proposed in 2017, he took Erica to the beach, where they enjoyed a picnic in the sand before he got down on one knee—on a rose petal-covered pathway—and asked Erica to be his wife. "I will never forget feeling like this was the start of my forever," she says. And if that moment was the start of Erica's forever, they kicked off the rest of their lives in epic, but classic style. Their wedding—held at Allegretto Vineyard Resort in Paso Robles, California—embraced the surrounding wine country with ultra-romantic details, thanks to the help of their planners at Lovelyfest Events. Colors of buttercup, blush, mauve, white, green, and gold accented, but didn't compete with, the venue, a Tuscan-inspired resort boasting gardens and vineyard views. The result? A party with the look of a Mediterranean destination event that didn't require the long flight.
Erica says 125 guests joined them for the big day, which she recalls now as one of the most amazing of her life. "One of my favorite memories from our wedding day was waking up and smiling, realizing I get to marry my best friend today," Erica explains.
Allegretto Vineyard Resort, where the couple held their ceremony and reception, provided the perfect backdrop for their big day: With terra-cotta tiles and stone finishes, the venue looked romantic—foreign, even. "We fell in love with it the first time we visited," Erica says. "Everything about it just felt right. We wanted a wedding that felt like a destination event, while still being conveniently located just a few hours away from home."
Stationery by Aerialist Press featured blush-hued envelopes lined with large blooms. A dainty crest topped each invitation.
Welcome to the Wedding
Upon their arrival, guests received welcome cards that included a custom, colorful map of the resort.
When Erica slipped on her Allison Webb wedding dress—a cashmere French lace and silk organza A-line number with an illusion neckline and buttons down the back—she knew she had found her gown: "The dress immediately felt like me. Once I walked out to see my mom and sister and started crying, I knew it was the one."
Before their first look, Tyler says, "I was anxious and excited. It felt like everything was moving in slow motion before this moment because there was so much anticipation. Even though I had known her for 13-plus years, it felt like I was seeing her for the first time."
Erica also shared a first look with her father. "It was so special having a one-on-one moment with him before walking down the aisle," she explains.
Erica's veil was custom-made by Allison Webb using the same lace from her dress; the appliqués were placed just where the accessory hit the ground. "The veil was such a special touch and will be a forever keepsake," Erica says.
Her bouquet, a loose, organic arrangement of Clair de Lune peonies, dusty pink garden roses, and orange-and-peach butterfly ranunculus, was tied with a long ribbon.
The groom's boutonnière was made of a hellebore blossom with small twigs of spirea.
Erica stepped into a pair of pink peep-toed pumps decorated with crystals and flowers.
Bridal Party Beauties
Bridesmaids wore blush A-line gowns by Hayley Paige. "I chose the dresses because the colors and romantic styles complemented our color palette and venue," Erica says. And while the couple didn't have flower girls, they did have two junior bridesmaids, she says.
Idlewild Floral created a stunning arch for the couple's ceremony. With more florals on the bottom, the arch appeared as if it had grown from and belonged to the garden. After the service, guests walked through the structure and down a path to the reception site.
A handkerchief and candy display, handmade by Erica's younger sisters, was placed at the ceremony site's entrance. It featured a sign that read, "Hankies for Happy Tears."
Both Erica's mother and father walked her down the aisle as "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by the O'Neil Brothers played.
Guests were guided to their seats by two escort card display walls. The walls included the duo's crest at the top and featured escort cards shaped like actual crests.
The couple held their reception in a courtyard, creating an intimate dining space surrounded by the walls of the resort. The space was dotted with olive trees; romantic bistro lights were hung overhead. "Guests were immediately transported to a space that felt like an Italian dinner party in the countryside of Tuscany," says the planning team at Lovelyfest Events.
Round tables were topped with eyelet lace linens and low arrangements of blush-and-buttercup blooms and greenery.
On the Menu
Each place setting featured menus with wax seals, silk ribbons, and guest names' written in calligraphy. "It was an al fresco dining experience enhanced by natural candlelight, good food, and wine," says Lovelyfest Events. "The perfect European-style dinner to match the Tuscan-inspired venue."
It was only appropriate that Erica and Tyler, who are high school sweethearts, dine at a sweetheart table come their reception.
The couple enjoyed a two-tier confection by Paper Cake Events, made with layers of brown sugar cinnamon and iced with maple buttercream. They also served guests small-bite desserts.
