Dolly Parton & Carl Dean Celebrated Their 50th Wedding Anniversary In the Best Way
After 50 years of marriage, sometimes it's the simple things that mean the most. Just ask Dolly Parton, who recently celebrated her golden anniversary with husband Carl Dean. To honor the occasion, the country legend and her famously low-key love renewed their vows in an intimate ceremony on Memorial Day weekend in Ringgold, Georgia-the same place they originally said "I do."
But it's what they did after the wedding that's the most surprising. "We took the little RV and went down and spent the night," Parton told Jimmy Fallon during an appearance Tuesday on The Tonight Show to promote her new album, Pure & Simple. "We just got fast food and ate in our camper and spent the night … It was [romantic] to us."
This down-to-earth after-party style may be an unconventional choice for the average bride and groom, but it's actually so them. The couple frequently travels together in their RV. "We just park and go to bed in the camper. We actually don't sleeping that much," Parton said, before joking, "that's why we've lasted 50 years!"
As Parton told Rolling Stone prior to hitting the relationship milestone, "How many people can say they've been married 50 years? We've made it this long, we need to do it again." The only way she got her ultra-private husband to agree to it? The two auctioned off their wedding photos and donated the proceeds to a children's charity.
