An Outdoor DIY Wedding in Coastal California
Anna Thomas and Timothy Lucas pull off a DIY wedding reminscent of summer camp at a California coastal resort.
Anna and Timothy
After a decade of dating, Tim Lucas proposed to Anna Thomas at their Brooklyn home under the watchful gazes of their cats, Sid and Pickles. The couple's September 1, 2012, DIY affair at Costanoa Lodge, a pristine coastal resort in Pescadero, California, was created to feel like summer camp, complete with outdoor movies, friendship bracelets, s'mores, and hiking.
The Stationery Suite
Invites by Happy Menocal featured a custom crest.
Anna's clutch from Shotgun Floral Studio held roses, tulips, sweet peas, dahlias, and lotus pods.
Bridesmaids chose dresses in a rangeof poppy hues.
Anna and Tim said their I do's under an arch designed and built by her architect father. The frame was formed from willow branches sourced from near the river where Anna grew up; flowers from Shotgun Floral Studio that appeared in her bouquet were woven in at the top.
The Escort Cards
Driftwood played up the seaside vibe.
The Cocktail Hour
Anna's dad built the reclaimed-wood bar, and the couple brandied hundreds of fresh cherries to serve with their Brooklyn-inspired cocktail.
Guests of Honor
Eucalyptus garlands adorned the couple's chairs.
Farm tables had hand-painted table numbers. "Growing up, my family was always incredibly community-oriented,so our wedding reflected that," says Anna.
Anna's 90-year-old grandmother baked 150 mini Bundt cakes to greet guests as they sat down to dinner.
"The California coastline is amazing," says Tim. "As someone who grew up on the East Coast, it's the kind of place I couldn't even have imagined, and it meant so much to share it with family who had never been there before."
