Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Picked an Extremely Popular Wedding Date
Is the day lucky?
Last week, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their official wedding date: Saturday, May 19, 2018. Not only is the day close to Duchess Kate's expected due date in April, but it's a popular one for other celebrity weddings.
E! News points out that three famous couples also tied the knot on May 19-Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, Michele Singer and Rob Reiner, and Jessica Alba and Cash Warren. The first of the trio wed back in 1997, meaning that they've been spouses for two decades. The second exchanged vows in 1989 (almost three decades ago!), and the third got married in 2008. Daily Mail adds that in 2012, Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg also got married on May 19.
Judging by the success of these other marriages, it's hard not to wonder if the date is a lucky one. (Interestingly, an astrologer told InStyle that the day predicts a happy marriage and children on the way for Markle and Harry.) Still, it's unclear why exactly they chose it. Some say that the couple's marriage is coming so quickly because they wanted to make sure that Prince Philip could attend. Others suggest that they wanted to give Kate some time to recover after the new baby's arrival. Another hilarious theory about the choice? Harry was trying to mess with Prince William, who will have to miss a beloved soccer game to attend!
Whatever the case, getting married on a Saturday is actually uncommon for royals. William and Kate wed on a Friday, and Queen Elizabeth II and Philip wed on a Thursday.
