The Happy Couple

mws2297_072209_sum10_hqb_b.jpg

He balances his checkbook; she delays paying bills. He prizes his alone time; she fancies going out. But Dominick and Sarah are more yin and yang than apples and oranges. Their wedding in the Catskills, three years after their online introduction, celebrated those similarities and differences during a fun-filled event that "wasn't too girly," says Sarah. "I needed Dominick to feel included in everything." And in the end, "he was as enthusiastic as I was."

The newlyweds' moods are as buoyant as the balloons; Sarah's oversize white floral headpiece was inspired by one worn by her mother, Marilyn Erwin, at her own wedding.

Invitations

The bride designed and printed the invitations for the wedding. The inspiration behind the stationery suite was silver age comic books. Dominick grew up liking a few characters, and Sarah loves "the exuberant art, simple newsprint paper, and their old-school printing style."

Guests Rana Lee Araneta and Lachlan Scotland feel the love. They pose for a Polaroid picture which was mounted in a photographic guest book, signed by all of the guests. The bride's cousin Matthew and his wife Stefanie shot all of the pictures and assembled the book for the bride and groom.

Favors

The bride and groom gave guests CDs, which doubled as place cards at the tables. Because the bride and groom love music so much, it was an obvious choice to pick a CD compilation as their favor. Each CD sleeve was made by hand by Sarah and Dominick from actual comic book pages, so each one was unique.

Escort Cards

The "X" and "O" escort cards were also designed by the bride. The boards they were hung on were built by a friend from college and her two daughters. Here Dominick's niece Emily reaches for one so she can find her seat.

Table Numbers

On top of each table sat a trio of photo cubes (bought on eBay), one of which doubled as a table number; the cubes held wedding-theme graphics from vintage Avengers, Aquaman, and other comic books.
