Alison Brie Says This Is the Most Challenging Part About Working with Husband Dave Franco
This is honestly so relatable.
Alison Brie is discovering just how tricky mixing personal and professional lives can be. The actress, who married Dave Franco in a super-secret wedding in March 2017, recently signed on to her husband's upcoming thriller The Rental.
Brie is enjoying working with writer-director Franco on the thriller (that's not surprising, considering that she finds marriage empowering). She told Seth Meyers, "It's the best. He's such a sweet guy and put everyone at ease on set." However, while Franco may be easy to work with, Brie had a harder time adjusting to this new facet of their relationship at first, E New! notes.
"We've worked together as actors before but never in this capacity," the actress explained. "It's his first film that he's directed. So there was this learning curve of, day one rehearsal one, we're talking about the blocking in the scene and I was like, 'Honey, do you think I should cross at this time?'" Right away, the actress realized her misstep. She pulled Franco aside to ask how to best handle addressing each other at work. "I was like, 'Do you want me to call you Dave on set when we're around the actors?'" she shared. "He was like, 'Could you call me David Franco? I need you to be professional.'"
"We're a real 'babe' and 'honey' household," the actress told Meyers, which is why deviating from those affectionate pet names, understandably, felt a little weird. "I will talk to people, like our showrunners on GLOW, and I'll be like, 'Isn't it so weird in a movie when you see someone talking about their husband and they say their name?'" says Brie, who stars in the Netflix wrestling comedy. "And they're like, 'Why is that weird?' and I'm like, 'Because you'll just call them 'babe' or 'honey'' and they're like, 'No I call them by their name when I'm speaking to them.'"
