Here's Everything We Know About Amy Schumer's Spontaneous Wedding
Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer's oceanfront wedding was the definition of casual. As more details and photos (from Marcus Russell Price and Rob and Lindsay Weddings) emerge from the comedian and chef's big day, it's clear that their nuptials were simple, hilarious, and personal-a true testament to the fun-loving couple. The ceremony kicked off with a round of laughter, a source told E! News. "Amy and Chris said personal vows that lasted about 15 minutes and got a ton of laughs from the crowd," revealed the insider. This likely had something to do with comedian John Early, who officiated the ceremony. After the couple said "I do," "everyone stood and cheered for them and tossed white rose petals in the air," the source continued.
Celebrity guest Jennifer Lawrence said that, in addition to humor, there was an incredible amount of emotion in the couple's vows-so much, that she was moved to tears. "It was beautiful," Lawrence told Entertainment Tonight. "I was sobbing the whole―his vows were stunning. It's when two people really love each other and they really mean it, it shows, and it was a beautiful ceremony and an amazing time. I couldn't be happier for them."
Lawrence also said that the duo's wedding was "very sudden," which Schumer's friend and stylist, Leesa Evans, confirmed. "Amy said, 'Text me when you wake up, Chris and I want to get married.' And then I called her when I woke up and she was like, 'Let's try on dresses today.' It was literally that of spur of the moment," Evans told People of the wedding dress search. Evans also revealed that Schumer's Monique Lhuilier lace wedding dress was the first (and last!) she tried on.
Evans said that Schumer opted for natural makeup and a wavy ponytail to feel "effortless and comfortable" on the big day. Her only accessory was her engagement ring-which is one of the only pieces of jewelry Schumer has ever loved, said Evans. "The ring that Chris gave her is really the first piece of jewelry she will have worn for years and years," Evans continued. "It was so sweet that the first piece of jewelry she's worn in so long is so special and beautiful."
The rest of Schumer and Fischer's wedding was all about their guests-and quite a few were celebrities. Jennifer Aniston, Jake Gyllenhaal, Judd Apatow, Larry David, Chelsea Handler, Jerry Seinfeld, and David Spade all stepped out to celebrate the newlyweds. The couple reportedly spent most of the evening talking to their friends and family, but the low-key party was punctuated with moments of dancing, quite a few performances, and good food (Fischer is a chef, after all!). Attendees dined on oysters and sat at tables topped with succulents, driftwood, pink roses, and black-and-white anemones, said another E! News source.
The reception took an emotional turn when the bride danced with her father, who suffers from multiple sclerosis. Schumer shared a photo of the two embracing, as they swayed to Pearl Jam's "Hearts and Thoughts." The festivities continued well into the evening, with a music-filled after-party. Schumer changed into a navy sweater, pants, and flats to belt out her favorite songs with her sister and bridesmaid, Kim Caramele.
It's obvious that Schumer has found her perfect partner, someone she described long before she met Fischer. "I'm more of a realist about relationships, and I'm not really interested in the artifice. But it's still fun to see. And we still do hope for that for ourselves," the Trainwreck actress told author Amy Kaufman last year. "You still do want to be like, 'I'm married to my best friend.' You want what they're pretending to have. And I do think it's possible. I know it's possible."
