John Legend Is "So Proud" of Chrissy Teigen for Opening Up About Her Postpartum Depression
Earlier this month, Chrissy Teigen opened up about her experience with postpartum depression. In an essay she wrote for the latest issue of Glamour, the model shared that she was diagnosed in December and that her husband, John Legend, was right by her side the entire time. In fact, he even helped her with the essay.
"I'm so proud of her," John told E! News. "She showed me the drafts when she was writing it and I knew it would mean a lot to a lot of women for them to see that. By acknowledging the pain that she's going through, in doing that she also acknowledges the pain that a lot of women go through after they have a child. A lot of people don't want to talk about it. A lot of people feel alone when they're going through it and for her to let people know that they're not alone, I think was really powerful."
In Chrissy's essay, she talked about the strength of her 10-year-long relationship with John, and how the two have seen each other at their best and worst. "John slept on the couch with me, sometimes four nights in a row," Chrissy wrote. And when she was finally diagnosed, both Chrissy and John felt relieved and excited. "John has been incredible over the last nine months, bringing me my medicine and watching horrible reality TV with me."
According to John, that's exactly what a spouse is supposed to do-be there no matter what. "You have to be present," he says. "You have to be compassionate. You have to understand what the reasons for them feeling what they're feeling are. I think once you know the reasons. I think you can be more helpful in identifying what they're going through."
