Lydia Hearst & Chris Hardwick Are Married—and You Won't Believe Their Wedding Theme!
The actress and talk show host's big day included some unexpected touches…
Weddings can (and should) be beautiful and fun. That's something Lydia Hearst, model, actress, and media heiress (her great-grandfather was publisher William Randolph Hearst) and Chris Hardwick of AMC's Talking Dead (and founder of media company, Nerdist) know. The playful pair share a love for science fiction and horror films-so it only made sense that their wedding on Saturday in Pasadena, California, included some quirky details.
"It's going to be absolutely beautiful," Hearst said of her wedding in an exclusive interview for our summer fashion spread, for which she tried on the season's most gorgeous gowns and dished on her wedding plans. But, she added, "our guests should be expecting zombies and robots."
True to her word, the 450 guests got zombies and robots-specifically astromech droids-and Jawas, and a Walking Dead-inspired save-the-date.
They also had a TARDIS cake (a Doctor Who reference) and water bottles labeled with the couple's initials in the shape of the TARDIS. "It's the little touches!" Hardwick captioned a photo of the customized H2O. We couldn't agree more!
The same symbol stamped the photo booth prints.
Celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss gets the credit for seamlessly incorporating Hearst and Hardwick's unique interests. Another major aspect of the day? The flowers! We knew blooms would play a big role in the big day-the bride and groom's Southern California home has lovely gardens ("We have wisteria, bougainvillea, roses, jasmine, gardenias-I love them all," Hearst told us). Sure enough, florist Mark Held created arrangements of red roses, Vanda orchids, and blue hydrangeas, another nod to the TARDIS.
The wedding dress, however, was free of any sci-fi reference. Designed by Hearst's friend Christian Siriano, the long-sleeved A-line gown featured a traditional white bodice and a white-to-hot pink ombre tulle skirt. "It's going to be classic bridal meets haute couture," Hearst teased to us. Mission accomplished!
"I am truly blessed to have you in my life @hardwick," Hearst captioned a black-and-white photo of the back of her dress last week. "I love you, and I will never stop loving you. I cannot wait to marry you in one week." Hardwick looked sharp in a custom-made Prada tux.
"I could never have envisioned a more perfect wedding day," Hearst told People prior to the celebration. "It's better and more magical than I could have ever dreamed of ... It's going to be perfect, and even if it isn't that's how it was meant to be. I'm more excited than anything else!"
The most important part to Hearst? Her groom, of course! "Everything else is just a bonus, but Chris is the most important person and vital component to me ... This is a celebration of our love and an incredible moment to share with our family and friends."
One incredible moment from the day was the first dance song, which Clay Walker sang. "We were also surrounded by the most wonderful collection of good humans and it was an honor to share this a day with them," Hardwick wrote on Instagram, before promising more pics "when we get them".
The @Midnight host did share a shot from the rehearsal dinner-a regram from the mother of the bride, Patricia Hearst.
Hearst herself shared a zombie-filtered photo of the duo before the big day, writing, "My love for you will never die."
The newlyweds met through a colleague, and Hardwick proposed to Hearst with a candy ring (really-her grandmother's antique diamond hadn't made its way from New York yet!) after winning an Emmy for @Midnight.
