Maddy and Cisco met through a mutual friend on the night of his 27th birthday in New York City—before they knew it, they were a couple. Three years into their relationship, Maddy returned to her apartment after a Sunday brunch with a college friend and was surprised to find a vase full of lilies—instead of Cisco waiting for her. It wasn't until she also found three notecards with clues about what to wear, what to bring, and when to be ready that Maddy realized Cisco was planning to propose to her that evening.

"At this point, my stomach was in butterflies!" Maddy remembers. Several hours later, while riding in the backseat of a black sedan en route to an unknown destination, Maddy pushed the play button on a homemade montage of personal photos and videos that Cisco sent to her phone. "I started to cry right then and there and knew this was going to be one of the best nights of my life," she recalls.

When she arrived at Palma, Maddy was escorted to an intimate dining area filled with candles and flowers. As a guitarist strummed the couple's favorite song, "That Girl" by Justin Timberlake, Cisco got down on one knee and proposed.

After a year and half of planning, paying close attention to every romantic detail, the compensation manager and account executive tied the knot on July 28, 2018 at The Foundry in Long Island City. Technically, the couple was married the night before in a religious ceremony at their local Catholic church, but they exchanged personal vows in front of 140 guests at their black-tie affair the following day.

"Our wedding was special because it was one of the first for our families," Maddy says. It felt even more special because it felt exactly like the couple—the event truly captured her and Cisco's personalities, thanks to the guidance they received from their wedding planning team.

Trending Now: Deckle-Edge Wedding Invitations

The bride and groom worked with their wedding planner, Komolmis, to design a stationery suite. Romantic touches, like deckled-edges and a loose calligraphy font, hinted at the theme of the big day.

15 of America's Most Beautifully Timeworn Wedding Venues

Although they considered a destination wedding, Maddy and Cisco appreciated the symbolism of getting married in New York City, where they first met. When searching for a venue, they knew they needed to find a space that exuded rustic elegance. The Foundry, a 19th century ivy-covered building in Long Island City with industrial character, checked all of the boxes, Maddy explains.

Figure-Flattering

"I was open to different silhouettes, so it made the process a bit easier when looking for dresses," says Maddy of her wedding dress search. She landed on a Pnina Tornai mermaid number, which she purchased at Kleinfeld, to accentuate her curves. "I dropped about 25 pounds and wanted to show my new body!"

To ensure that other aspects of her bridal look didn't mask the intricacies of her lace gown, Maddy wore a simple yet elegant center-part hairstyle, a rose-hued smoky eye, and a neutral lip. Sparkling Swarovski crystal earrings finished the look.

Her groom chose a bespoke Alexander Nash shawl collar tuxedo in blue to complement his complexion and to differentiate himself from his groomsmen, who wore black. His advice to other grooms? Invest in a bespoke suit. "If the bride can splurge on her dress, we should be able to do the same," he says. "I promise you'll never find another suit that fits like it."

Is a First Look Right for You? Consider These Pros and Cons

"Seeing my future wife in for the first time in her wedding dress…I'll never forget the feeling and emotions that I felt in that very moment," remembers Cisco. The first look was also Maddy's favorite part of the day, since it allowed her and her fiancé to be together while soaking everything in. "I was so nervous to see Cisco in my wedding dress and almost couldn't fathom that I was going to be his wife," she says.

With their wedding party in tow, the couple popped a bottle Vueve Cliquot to kick off the celebration. Maddy's bridesmaids—they included two good friends, two cousins, and her maid-of-honor—coordinated in blush-colored BHLDN dresses. The groomsmen, Cisco's cousins and close friends, mirrored Cisco's sockless look, pairing slip-on loafers with their The Black Tux tuxedos and bow ties.

Dapper Ring Bearers Who Completely Stole Our Hearts

Komolmis set the stage for a romantic ceremony in The Foundry's main space with hanging orb lights, a floral arch with wild greenery, and classic candle lanterns.

The couple's ring bearer was a ceremony highlight. He wore a shy smile and a pale blue suit as he walked down the aisle carrying a custom wooden sign that read: "Don't worry ladies. I'm still single!"

Long Live Life

When the couple decided to write their own vows, they began teasing each other about who would have the better speech. "I think the bride won that one," admits Cisco.

After sealing their nuptials with a kiss, Maddy and Cisco walked back up the aisle as husband and wife serenaded by Alexandra & Ensembles, a string quartet. The musicians played Coldplay's "Vida La Vida" for the recessional.

Under the Stars

Credit: Elkin Cardona

Following cocktail hour inside The Foundry's greenhouse, the wedding moved to the courtyard for dinner and dancing under the stars. Guests were seated at long wooden tables adorned with table garlands, floral centerpieces, and tall taper candles. "It was absolutely romantic and beautiful," says Maddy. "Felt like we were in a different world outside of New York City."

Maddy's father started crying as they danced to "De Nina a Mujer" by Julio Iglesias. "We grew up listening to this song," she explains. "It's such an emotional song." The mood changed when Cisco and his mother used their moment in the spotlight to salsa dance, celebrating their family's Puerto Rican heritage.
