A Summery, Lakeside Wedding in Michigan

Isabel Schreiber and Tom Corrigan were freshman at college in Ohio, living in the same dorm, when they first crossed paths. Eight and a half years later, Izzy (now a nanny) and Tom (working towards a PhD in chemistry) were post-grad, in love, and ready to make things more official than just being college sweethearts. And so, on July 9, 2016, with 115 guests gathered, they became husband and wife.

With Northern Michigan being the bride's favorite place in the world, she was beyond excited to share it with her and Tom's extended families. The Columbus, Ohio, based pair got hitched during a destination wedding inspired by the lakeside setting and complete with personalized touches—a special family tradition, one-of-a-kind invitations, and a special sweet treat for the groom, to name a few.

The paper-loving bride wanted something special for the weddings stationery, and by working with Gatlin Paper Co., she got just that. The save-the-dates featured a watercolor image of the dock at Izzy's grandparents' nearby cottage, where she's spent summers visiting during her childhood.

A custom crest by Gatlin Paper Co., was printed in shades of pink and green with the text letterpressed in a soft gray ink. The suite was enclosed in envelopes lined with hand-painted stripes. "I loved them so much I almost didn't want to send them out," the bride notes.

The couple welcomed their guests with customized totes filled with goodies they love—such as Cherry Republic caramel-covered cherry chews, a cute notepad with their favorite lake on it, and chocolates from Malley's in Cleveland as a nod to Tom's hometown. An illustrated map helped guests get around town.

Since Tom is into triathlons, the pair also hosted a fun 5k the morning of the wedding, where the custom water bottles included in the welcome bags came in handy.

Izzy tried on about seven dresses, narrowing it down to a top two. She returned to the salon alone to retry them, and when she put on this Jenny Packham gown, she knew it was the one. For the ceremony (and much of the evening), she added a Sara Gabriel veil to add a bit of preppiness to her mostly bohemian ensemble.

Tom found his blue suit at Zara, pairing it with a shirt, belt, and pocket square from J.Crew, a Ted Baker bow tie, and Aldo loafers.

Light blue patent leather Valentino shoes provided the bride's "something blue." Technically, they were a bit of her "something borrowed," as her sister had worn the same exact style in ivory the year prior.

Loving anything with a monogram, Izzy also ordered a pair of Jack Rogers with her new initials to slip into at the end of the night.

Izzy carried a structured, mostly white bouquet with some greenery, comprised of peonies and roses.

The groom chose "Satellite" by Dave Matthews Band to play while he walked down the aisle. "I was skeptical about his choice, but it turned out to be perfect," Izzy says. Now the song plays and brings back the happiest of memories for her.

As the sun was sparkling on the water nearby, the bride entered on the arms of her parents, to the sounds of "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles. "I've wanted to walk down the aisle to that song since I heard it in 'The Parent Trap' when I was nine," the bride says. She met her groom and joined hands for the outdoor ceremony, which was officiated by the bride's brother-in-law.

"Our ceremony was one of my favorite parts of the day," Izzy says. "Our two readings were sort of a last-minute decision, but they worked out perfectly." The first, was a traditional Irish blessing read by the groom's older sister, and the second, was "I Like You" by Sandol Stoddard Warburg, read by the bride's childhood best friend. The groom agrees, noting it was his favorite time, too, and that he wishes he could do it all over again. The couple also exchanged with the traditional vows.

Although it's typical for only the groom to break the glass at the conclusion of a Jewish wedding ceremony, Izzy joined in on the ritual, just like her mother and sister had done before her.

Opting out of a large wedding party, the couple instead chose to have the bride's older sister and the groom's younger brother serve as their formal attendants. Tom and his little brother (wearing an H&M suit and J.Crew gingham tie) also gathered with the groom's close friends for an unofficial portrait.

Bringing in a bohemian touch to the classic, lakefront celebration, planner Rachel Moger of Sincerely, Ginger Event Design & Production created an escort card display on a macramé installation topped with fresh flowers and greenery.

Reggie, a mini golden doodle pup and "nephew" of the couple enjoyed the weekend's festivities, too.

After a cocktail hour on the lawn by the lake, where guests relaxed while a jazz band played, everyone moved towards the reception, entering the tent, which was framed by garlands of greenery and a pair of tiered topiaries.

X-back chairs were set at tables covered with soft blue linens, French blue napkins, and white floral arrangements. Guests dined on northern Michigan fare, including parmesan-crusted walleye and salads with local cherries.

"Outloud" by Dispatch played as the newlyweds hit the dance floor.

The couple shared a blanket and a kiss on the dock as the sun set. "Standing at the end of the dock, seeing the tent filled with our friends and family, snuggled up with my new husband, and taking it all in is indescribable," Izzy recalls of the dream-like moment.

The buttercream-covered cake was decorated with fresh blooms. Some slices were boxed up and the couple enjoyed an extra dessert when they got back to the hotel following the evening's festivities.

Izzy tried to surprise her donut-loving sweetheart with the addition of donuts to the dessert offerings, but unable to keep the secret, she spilled the beans almost immediately. "Izzy had told me a few weeks before the wedding, but honestly, with all the excited of the day, I had completely forgotten," Tom says. "When I saw the display in the tent, I was surprised all over again. They were definitely a big hit."
