Queen Elizabeth Allegedly Invited Doria Ragland to Spend the Holidays with the Royal Family
The monarch reportedly broke royal protocol so Meghan Markle could celebrate the season with her mother.
It's no secret that Queen Elizabeth and Meghan Markle have a special relationship-the pair bonded during their first solo trip, shortly after the former actress married her grandson, Prince Harry. Now, the monarch is reportedly embracing Meghan's kin as her own by involving her new granddaughter-in-law's mother more closely in the royal family's lives. According to a Daily Mail report, Doria Ragland has received a personal invitation from Queen Elizabeth to join her daughter during this year's Christmas festivities.
Though Kensington Palace has yet to confirm the report, sources have speculated that Doria will travel to Sandringham (one of Her Majesty's private homes) this December, where she'll enjoy royal accommodations and participate in Queen Elizabeth's Christmas rituals. It's been reported that the Queen extended the invitation as a sign of respect towards Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, who are expecting their first child next spring.
The decision is undoubtedly thoughtful, but we'll have to wait and see if Doria does journey across the pond to partake-the gesture is, after all, highly unprecedented. Typically, members of the royal family are the only people to stay over at the country home. Not even Kate Middleton's family has been invited to stay at the Queen's estate. Though they've attended church with the royals, they've resided nearby, at Anmer Hall.
However, it's possible that Queen Elizabeth understands that (unlike Kate), Meghan has no direct relatives nearby. In fact, Doria was Meghan's only family member to attend her royal wedding in May and show continuous support throughout her transition from actress to royal activist. Doria returned to London this September to witness Meghan's first royal speech in honor of a cookbook project. She's even more excited for the Duchess of Sussex's newest venture: motherhood. Upon hearing news of her first grandchild's anticipated arrival, she stated that she "is very happy about this lovely news and she looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild," according to a Kensington Palace statement.
