Kristin Cavallari Opens Up About Her Marriage to Jay Cutler
And all their imperfections.
It's always refreshing when a celebrity couple is willing to talk about the reality of their relationship. Kristin Cavallari is doing just that. The Laguna Beach alum and fashion designer is opening up about her marriage to former professional football player Jay Cutler, and exactly what the couple does to make their relationship work.
"Honestly, I think communication," Cavallari told Us Weekly of the secret to a strong marriage. "And it's so much easier said than done. I know that Jay and I have to make a conscious effort. You have to put in work for a relationship. You can't just get complacent and lazy. You have to still value and appreciate the other person. I think that when you don't that's probably when you start to get in trouble."
Just a year ago, Cavallari admitted that couples therapy had saved her marriage-the couple had even gone so far as to call off their engagement at one point before deciding to say "I do" in June 2013. But while she's open to acknowledging they have issues, she's equally open about their willingness to make it all fit. "Our relationship isn't perfect," she said. "But we love each other and we work on it and we make a conscious choice to work on the relationship and I think that that's what you just have to do."
But would the celebrity and mom of three recommend therapy for other struggling couples? It sure sounds like it! "We have a lot of great tools that we learned from therapy and I think that was the most beneficial part. Just learning how to communicate and walking away with some great tools, which we'll always be able to use." If anything, this just confirms the fact that Cavallari and Cutler are real-life relationship goals.
