See All The Wedding Dresses That Didn't Make It Into the "Sex and the City" Movie
All Sex and the City fans remember this scene from the first film: Carrie Bradshaw, portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker, trying on wedding dress after wedding dress for an upcoming magazine photoshoot. During the fashion frenzy, however, she discovers the one; the strapless, sweetheart ball gown from Vivienne Westwood ultimately informs the rest of her small-in-theory, but big-in-execution (almost) nuptials to Mr. Big.
While Carrie refers to the garment as "a dress so special it could bring a wedding tear from even the most unbelieving of women," the process of choosing the design, behind the scenes, wasn't as simple. Much like the dress search many brides undertake for their real-life big days, the costume designers for Sex and the City tested out quite a few potential looks for Parker before they landed on the Vivienne Westwood number.
In the film, Carrie is seen trying on gowns from the likes of Vera Wang, Carolina Herrera, Dior, and Oscar de la Renta. However, there were far more dresses in the running that simply never made the cut. A resourceful fan social media account, Every Outfit on Sex and the City, recently stumbled across a rarely-seen archive of designs that were also contenders. There are a few colorful options, including one multicolored dress with a dramatic cape and another pink number with a bold blue bow—both of which seem befitting of the bold Carrie Bradshaw. A few more traditional bridal options can also be seen: an embellished trumpet dress, a sheath with a feather bolero, and a fashion-forward ensemble with dramatic puff sleeves.
Scrolling through the images was a walk down memory lane for Parker, who commented on the account's post in awe: "Ok. Wait a minute. We have so much to discuss. I'm gathering thoughts. WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE PHOTOS? The mother load!! X, sj."
