Baseball player Justin Verlander experienced two major life moments at the end of 2017: The professional pitcher led the Houston Astros to their first World Series victory and he married model Kate Upton. While the first milestone was incredible, it's the latter that Verlander can't stop talking about. Four months after the festivities, the athlete reflected on the duo's outdoor wedding in Italy (which he likened to a fairy tale!), in an interview with People.

"It was a very special moment. It was pretty storybook. The moment the gates opened and I saw her walking down the aisle, I lost it. She looked so beautiful, and I had been looking forward to that day for a long time," Verlander explained, adding that he also looked at the couple's family and friends to help the special moment sink in. "All the emotions came to me, and it was everything I had imagined it would be and more."

Verlander also spoke about juggling a back-to-back World Series win and destination wedding. "Two life-changing events happened in the same week; it just doesn't happen like that too often," he continued, calling that special time the "best experience ever." Of course, celebrating felt that much sweeter with his now-wife by his side. "I'm truly blessed to be able to share these experiences with my best friend, and all our close friends and family were there," he said.

Upton and Verlander's wedding may have been a life highlight, but every day since has been magic, the athlete explained. "Married life's been great. I married my best friend, and we do everything we can to spend as much time together as possible," he said. "Honestly, I couldn't be happier. It's been a lovely first year of marriage."
