Meg Runion's Jewelry-Making Bachelorette Get-Together
For Meg Runion's bachelorette party, the crafty bride-to-be opted for a night with her bridesmaids at a local store, Roxie Daisy, in Charlottesville, Virginia. The girls spent some time getting to know one another and letting their creative juices flow.
Simple finger food and a cheese plate were set out with Champagne for the group to munch on during the event. The girls later went to dinner at a nearby restaurant.
Beads and findings were set out and the palette matched the dresses the girls would wear on the wedding day.
Messages in a Bottle
The girls organized a set of bottles for the bride and groom to open on certain occasions. Tags were attached and labeled with cues such as "open me after your first fight," "open me after you watch your first snowfall together," "open me after me after a boring day," "open me after you watch your first sunset together," and "open me after your first concert." The scrolls inside contained sweet little notes, poems, advice, or a memory.
Jeweler Erin McDermott was there to guide the project. She brought samples of her work to show the techniques and patterns for making each piece. For the necklaces, she offered inspiration for different styles: delicate, chunky, or in-between. She then gave a quick tutorial on basic assembly.
The bridesmaids used special trays to plot out their necklaces.
The turquoise beads were strung onto wire.
Pliers clamped the metal pieces together. Not everyone finished their necklaces, so Erin took them home at the end of the night to add clasps and make final adjustments. The end pieces were displayed on the wedding day, before the girls put them on.
Roxy Daisy didn't just serve as the setting for the gathering, it was also one of the stores on Meg's registry. Meg unwrapped a few items that she received that day.
