The newest wedding dresses from industry powerhouse Amsale may be undeniably beautiful—but they're touched with the bittersweet. This particular collection, which debuted at New York City's Bridal Fashion Week, marks the first series of bridal gowns that were not directly influenced by the label's late founder, the legendary Amsale Aberra. The Ethiopian-American designer passed away in early 2018, entrusting the brand to her husband and Amsale CEO, Neil Brown, and her creative successor, Margo Lafontaine.
Aberra, however, isn't entirely absent from the newest bridal collection. Her dedication to elegant simplicity, clean lines, and fresh, contemporary details remain. In fact, many of the garments incorporated the elements that have defined the Amsale brand for so long—like tasteful mesh, structural bows, and minimal beading. Take the sheath wedding dress with a v-neckline and short sleeves, for example. It's a clean, contemporary take on a classic design, and it's clear that so much of what propelled Amsale to the forefront of bridal couture in the late '80s—when over-the-top wedding dress fashion had reached its breaking point—is alive today, nearly 25 years after the brand's conception.
Here's proof: The designer's very first wedding dress, the A101 column, is still a major part of virtually every collection. The sleek sheath has become Amsale's signature, something that is constantly reinvented season after season. You'll discover the latest interpretation in this collection, which is also noteworthy for its use of illusion necklines, lustrous fabrics, and impeccable tailoring. To see the entire collection, click through and prepare to be wowed by all of the sophisticated, polished looks that do Aberra's legacy the ultimate justice.
