How to Choose the Right Linens for Your Reception Tables
They're a surprisingly important part of your overall décor.
Selecting a wedding color scheme can be a tricky process. With so many potential options—truly, no color is wrong!—there's a lot to consider. And sometimes, just when you think you've decided to go with one selection of colors, something (another hue) sparks your creative eye. When it comes to planning your ultimate wedding reception based around your chosen color palette, your selection of table linens goes hand-in-hand. It doesn't matter if you've selected a palette of ivory with pale blues or variations of tangerine, orange, and yellows, there's one single question that always remains: How do you choose the right linens for your reception table?
Liz Curtis, founder of Table + Teaspoon shared her professional opinion on the choice of wedding table linens, saying, "Table linens are the easiest and most cost-effective way to make a statement at your wedding. Unless you're skipping linens all together, you'll likely have to rent them—so why not up the ante by foregoing plain white polyester in favor of something more personal? Going for an ultra-glamorous evening?"
Curtis continues, "Try black mini-sequins reminiscent of caviar. More of a preppy Nantucket vibe? Navy and white striped is a classic. Boho-chic? Ivory lace is perfect. Winter wonderland? Velvet is your new best friend." Just as the selection of the right color-coordinated linens is crucial in any celebratory event, Curtis also says that the fabric you select is important. By bring in a new, unexpected texture, you can really enhance or change the vibe in your space.
Whatever you do, don't be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to table linens. Consider a bold color or a fabric you haven't used throughout the rest of the celebration? If it speaks to you, go for it. "Don't be afraid to try something daring when it comes to textiles," Curtis urges. "Your guests will love the extra touch, and the photographs will be enhanced by the color and texture of a specialty linen."
