Jamie and Alex's Wedding in the Mountains of Utah

The Couple

Annie McElwain

Alex and Jamie met after bumping into one another, literally, on a street in New York City. He asked for her number and the rest was history. The San Francisco-based couple were together for five years before tying the knot on June 14, 2014, in Park City, Utah, near where Jamie's parents live.

The intimate three-day wedding celebration in the mountains kicked off on Thursday with a welcome barbecue at her parents' home. On Friday, the guys participated in a golf tournament, the ladies relaxed poolside and soaked up some sunshine, and later everyone came together for a rehearsal dinner in town at Zoom. On the morning of the wedding day, most guests went hiking or mountain biking. Then they gathered at Hotel Park City for the big event, which featured everything the couple's beloved destination had to offer and set the scene for everyone to get know one another even more.

The Save-the-Date

Julie Song Ink painted the Park City landscape as the backdrop for the save-the-date cards. The watercolor art was just one way Jamie and Alex played up the beauty of the wedding's location.

The Invitation

Continuing with the watercolor style for the invites, Julie Song Ink created a custom floral wreath that would match with the actual flowers being used at the couple's nuptials.

The Ceremony

Annie McElwain

Working with their officiant (a childhood friend of the bride's mother), Jamie and Alex crafted a ceremony that was short but heartfelt. The service, which took place under a structure decorated with roses, Aspen leaves, and branches, centered around a reading by Robert Fulghum called "Union."

Creating a Stir

Annie McElwain

Custom stir sticks ordered through Etsy played off the moose sculpture that stands in front of the Hotel Park City. They were added to the signature cocktail, a "Whiskey Buck," which was made with High West whiskey, ginger beer, simple syrup, and lemon juice.

The Escort Cards

Annie McElwain

Calligraphed escort cards were tied to garlands with thin velvet ribbon. The natural display fit in with the landscape and lush floral arrangements of the day.

The Reception

Annie McElwain

Nicole Arena of Green Ribbon Parties planned the wedding and designed the reception, working closely with floral designer Sarah Winward. The subtle tones suited the natural surroundings and the palette of the soirée, and celebrated the flowers of June. Vines of greenery trailed up the tent poles to bring more of the outdoors in and personalize the tent.

The Place Settings

Annie McElwain

Julie Song Ink watercolored another wreath for the menus, this time sticking within shades of green and blue to match the color of the linens. A fresh bloom was placed atop each menu, which was finished with a bit of velvet ribbon. Navy calligraphy outlined the buffet dinner offerings: butternut squash soup, baked wild salmon with dill cream, herb-stuffed chicken, roasted tenderloin with rosemary and demi-glaze, garlic mashed potatoes, wild rice, and grilled vegetables.

The First Dance

The newlyweds, who love the classics, chose Bobby Darin's "Beyond the Sea" for their first dance. The tune played the night they got engaged, so it was extra special.

Dancing With Dad

Annie McElwain

Jamie and her father shared a dance to Rascal Flatts' "My Wish." "We both got a bit teary and he tried to show off his dance moves," Jamie recalls.

"We love coconut cake and can't get enough of it," Jamie says of the confection served at their reception.

The Getaway

Annie McElwain

Alex surprised his wife with a stylish getaway. "He told me to grab my shawl and purse, and when I came downstairs from the hotel, all of our guests were waiting outside lined up," Jamie says. They got into a 1934 Plymouth PE Deluxe and drove through downtown for a bit before meeting everyone at the after-party at the No Name Saloon.
