How to Get Amazing Wedding Photos in the Rain

Rain may be the ultimate fear for any couple on their wedding day, especially if they're planning for a portion of the events to take place outside. Unfortunately (and as much as we wish otherwise), we can't control Mother Nature. To ease the anxieties of weather-watching couples, we went on a mission to find the silver lining of rainy-day weddings, other than the supposed luck that it brings. The good news? What we found had us positively swooning!

Who knew rain could make your wedding day even more romantic, memorable, and heartwarming? Let these images convince you of the same. Whether rain interrupted the ceremony, reception, or photo session itself, it proved a welcome guest at these real celebrations, transforming the couple's snapshots, making for a cozier environment, or even altering the decorations for the better! So what did we learn? From rain comes rainbows (and seriously-gorgeous photo-ops)—and these examples prove why. In short, rain can make your nuptials even more special than you planned for.

Romantic Vows

Can it get any sweeter than the groom holding an umbrella for his future wife? At this ceremony, designed by A Charming Fete and Baumann's Florist, the groom pulled out all the chivalrous stops and shielded his bride from an impending rain drops. If being protected by your future spouse on your wedding day isn't the ultimate show of affection, we don't know what is.

They say rain on your wedding day brings good luck to the marriage, so this couple didn't sweat the inclement weather! The bride and groom at this HoneyFitz Events wedding used the rain to their advantage, cozying up beneath an umbrella for a few sweet portraits. Any excuse to hug your new husband, right?

Beautiful Portraits

You don't have to get wet to take beautiful portraits in the rain. This couple utilized their gorgeous venue to protect from the rain, but still captured photos in the soft, rainy light. The rain gave them room to get creative. Had it been a perfectly sunny day, this bride and groom may never have thought to take photos just inside the barn doors. If rain threatens on your big day, think of it as an opportunity to consider your wedding venue in a brand new way.

You don't have to sacrifice on reception style if it rains. If inclement weather means a last-minute change in plans, don't fret. When this couple had to add a tent to their wedding, they incorporated floral décor from Fifty Flowers. The result is even more beautiful the original décor plan. Now that's a silver lining.

Act Natural

There's something about an umbrella that makes kissing pictures less awkward. The bride and groom at this So Eventful wedding took a rainy stroll, ducking beneath an umbrella for cover. While it made for a fun prop, the umbrella also has the added benefit of helping the couple feel more natural. Most couples find posing for a kissing photo to be a bit awkward at first, so having something to distract you, occupy a hand, or to change the focus of the photo can help couples relax.
