Converstation Starters

mwd104711_sum09_calendarflags.jpg

There are lots of games you can give your wedding guests to get the good times rollin'. First up: This bold time line serves as a three-dimensional reminder of when you first met your guests. Play it during cocktail hour.

Keep clicking for the "I Knew You When" game details, and more custom game ideas.

I Knew You When... Game

mwd104771_sum09_calendarflagss.jpg

Play It
During cocktail hour, each guest sticks a flag into the year she met either the bride or groom.

Make It
Save our clip art on a disk. Have it printed on oversize paper and mounted to foam board at a print shop. Cut flags from origami or scrapbooking paper; punch two holes and thread a corsage pin through. Stick into a fabric-wrapped foam board on a tray. Pins, by Lomey, from michaelsfloralsupply.com.

Change Is Good Game

mwd104711_sum09_penny.jpg

Get guests talking (and, with any luck, maybe over-sharing) with vintage coins that are sure to mint new friendships.

Play It
Ask your bandleader to explain the rules: Each guest opens his or her favor box, then shares with the table an important event that corresponds to the year on each coin (e.g., "In 1996, I was named best-dressed in high school").

Make It
Look for vintage coins in collectors' shops and online (try eBay). Line each box with a mini cupcake paper, then tuck a few coins inside. Last, tie each box with a ribbon printed with a message that hints at the fun to come. Favor box, by Semikolon, from See Jane Work. Custom-printed satin ribbon, Masterstroke Canada.

Double the Fun Game

mwd104711_sum09_matchgame3.jpg
Get the How-To and Download Clip-Art

Hoping your college roommate chats up your future husband's childhood friend? Find-your-match cards are a sweet way to ensure they'll meet.

Play It
Announce the rules early in the evening (consider asking a member of your wedding party to explain them). Each guest will receive a card with the name of one half of a famous couple -- and will have until the end of the night to find its mate.

Make It
Download and print our heart cards onto card stock. Write a famous pair on each card, with one name on either side of the heart (a longer list of famous couples is on our website). Cut out cards along their outer edges, then cut each down the middle with decorative scissors. Place one card at each table setting.

I Spy... Game for Kids

mwd104771_sum09_ispy.jpg
Get the How-To and Download Clip-Art

Keep your littlest guests occupied with this photographic scavenger hunt. Who knows? One of them might even snap your favorite shot of the night.

Play It
Place a card, a disposable camera, and a pencil at each child's setting, and see which kid can photograph all the items on the list first. You won't need an incentive to get the kids playing, but a small prize for the winner is a good idea.

Make It
Download cards, print onto card stock, and round corners with a craft punch. Snow-white camera, WeddingFavorsToGo.com. Carpenter's pencil, by Marc Vidal, from Motel Deluxe.

What's In a Name? Game

mwd104771_sum09_psst.jpg
Get the How-To and Download Clip-Art

Some guests are too shy to share their life stories. Help them bypass the small talk and go straight for the good stuff with introductory cards that reveal shared interests or personal triumphs.

Play It
When a guest slides out her place card (calligraph her name under our design), she'll see an arrow pointing to the left with the name of the person seated there, plus an interesting tidbit (e.g., "Joel was a Connecticut tap-dancing finalist!"). A second arrow shares info on the person seated to her right.

Make It
Download our editable clip art, then customize a card for each guest. Print onto card stock and cut out, using a craft punch to round the corners.

Double-Sided Place Cards

mwd104771_sum09_nametag.jpg

Here's a tip: To keep embarrassing social gaffes (e.g., "Hi, Matt -- er, Keith?") to a minimum, write each guest's name on both sides of the place card.

Song and Dance

mwd104771_sum09_dancecard3.jpg

Here's a guaranteed dance-floor hit: Instead of numbering your tables, assign a song title to each one. When the tune plays, the whole table has to get up and get down.
