It's officially summer, which means it is time to retire your winter wreaths in favor of more seasonal décor. To get the most out the newest addition to your porch, Ashley Greer of Atelier Ashley Flowers says to select a wreath based on the season, rather than a specific holiday. "This way, your door will stay current for a few months, as opposed to just a few days."

According to Greer, the best wreaths are either very detailed or very simple. "When you have a wreath with one element, it can make a statement from a distance," she says. "Similarly, if you have a wreath that is very detailed, you might not be able to see all the details, but you will understand the overall mood." Deciding which type of vibe you want to set before you choose your new wreath will ensure you are able to enjoy it for the rest of season.

Consider this pro tip before you start shopping: If your wreath will be outdoors and exposed to the elements, you will want to make sure it's made from durable materials (that means you may want to skip any of the options from our upcoming list of favorites that contain dried flowers). "If you get a lot of sun, it might be a good idea to choose a wreath that is all one color," she says. "That way when it fades, it will feel consistent—and if you're lucky, you can even touch it up with a little spray paint."
