Every good dog deserves treats. And, of course, our best friends should only be wolfing down snacks that are delicious and healthy. We've come a long way in the last few years when it comes to wholesome, natural food options for dogs, so it only makes sense to also choose treats that aren't loaded with artificial ingredients or chemicals, too. The good news is there are so many brands out there cooking up tasty snacks that you can feel good about giving about giving to your pup. They range from teeny crunchy bites with only a couple of calories each (perfect for use as training rewards) to big, long-lasting chews that tell your dog how much you love them (and stop them from chewing your favorite shoe).

Shopping the pets aisle can be a bit overwhelming thanks to so many claims on the packaging, but you can easily decide what's worth purchasing by giving the ingredients list a quick look. According to Whole Dog Journal, you'll want to skip any treats that contain artificial preservatives or colors, animal products from unnamed species, or animal by-products. That narrows down the field considerably.

Single ingredient treats make the choice easy, but there are also plenty of options made carefully with real food ingredients that your dog will love. Whole Dog Journal recommends sticking with whole foods versus byproducts, and shares a valuable tip: Ingredients are listed in order of weight, so the first few ingredients make up the majority of what's in the treat. That makes them especially important, so be sure to look for high quality there.

To make your shopping trips even easier, we've picked out a few favorites that you and your dog will both appreciate.
