Lighten up diefenbaker. Sewingcats4 and pattiet were in no way critical, and your remark about a lack of imagination was mean spirited and uncalled for. They both just pretty much stated the obvious, namely, that while this spring cookie is very cute, it is inappropriate for fall. I think most people want to make seasonally appropriate crafts and foods, and are looking for a little bit more of a challenge that cereal and marshmallows. I do plan to make these come spring, and hope mine look half as good as Martha's, but at this time of the year want something in a more autumnal theme.

hey mizwiz, good idea about the orange food coloring. I might try to make these and make them into little pumpkins instead of little chicks.

Pity that Sewingcats4 and pattiet have zero imagination. Its great when creativity is being displayed, even if it isn't in the shape of a cookie. What shape is a cookie supposed to be? Maybe by the time that you have made all of the other 364 "Cookies of the Day" you will realize that imagination and creativity are a gift-even though they don't it in the perimeters of a "Cookie". These look like so much fun, I can't wait to make them, so step outside the "circle" and enjoy!

Sewingcats4: I was thinking the same, but I'm sure it's just because of kids going back to school recently, and these are all kid-friendly type of recipes. I expect more traditional kinds of cookies again pretty soon.

P.S. This is a great one for girl scouts. You can make leaves instead of nests and put various insects on the leaves. It would be appropriate any time of year. I think the girls could really get into that.

I think these are delightfull and I am glad that you are publishing recipes that use cereal as well as art form. My grandkids love making anything with cereal. I personally am glad that you include a diversity of recipes in your collection-it is a lot less boring this way. Thanks

Cute idea for spring, so why is it being posted in September? And I'm with Sewingcats4, I don't really consider the cereal and marshmallow combination to be a cookie.

I am not even a teenager yet and I love cooking and I think this would be perfect for the little children I will be baby-sitting. Hope it tastes good.

sewingcats4, I think Martha is just trying to mix things up. What you don't consider to be a cookie or even appealing, just might be to someone else...lighten up! Remember, you only have to make the ones YOU want.

My grandkids love rice krispie treats. I think I'll try these using that recipe. Great for Easter treats.

I am a bit dissapointed in the last few cookies of the day recipes. Most of them all seem to contain some sort of cereal and I really don't consider them cookies. I signed up for thecookie of the day in hopes that I would be receiving some really interesting cookie recipes. Not what I expected from Martha Stewart!!!

You have to work really fast once the cornflakes are added in Step 1 as the mixture cools and hardens very quickly. I had trouble forming round balls as my mixture had already hardened considerably. Also, it is best to really, really butter the bowl; i greased mine lightly and had great trouble getting the nests out.
