    Not what I expected, too crumbly; however, I used a gluten free flour blend and didn't wait for it to be completely cool before serving it - it was getting late and fam was waiting for it. Love the syrup drizzle.

    I have been making this cake since its debut in 2006. It is my favorite cake, hands down. Yes, the batter is a very stiff mix, but well worth the extra effort. I use fresh, local, black walnuts from the harvest year for added depth to the flavor. I always make extra caramel sauce because everyone loves it served hot over the ice cream with the cake. This cake also makes a wonderful gift to give over the Holidays. Just don't forget to give a small jar of the carmel sauce too!

    disgusting. I followed this recipe exactly. and it came out too sweet, dry and a flavorless crumbly mess. This will be the only time I try a recipe from this site. I get other recipes and I read the comments and I am forwarned, but not here. When I read the list of ingredients, I thought it was odd but perhaps it would be good anyway. NOPE.

    I just made this cake for the first time. It's still in the oven, but was concerned that there was no such thing as "pouring" the batter. It was very thick and had to be spooned into the pan. We'll see how it turns out, but was just wondering if it's supposed to be such a thick batter. I kept looking for a liquid ingredient that I might have missed.

    OMG! I looked through many recipes for an apple spice cake and many used applesauce, canned apples, or spice cake mix! This is a true from scratch recipe that is de-licious! WOW! the carmel sauce is awesome on it. I give this a 5 star! I recommended this on my facebook page too!
