Spiderweb Eggs

Recipe photo courtesy of Kate Sears

It may look like a swarm of spiders got into the henhouse, but these eggs are another Halloween hoax. Webs are "spun" with the help of blueberries, which are added to the water as the eggs cook.

I made these with the blueberries and they turned out perfectly. They were easier than I expected and even though the liquid was still *slightly* warm when I took them out of the fridge, the dye worked fine. These looked beautiful on Martha's aluminum leaf-shaped plates from Macy's, which I had sprinkled with paprika.

I just tried one egg in preperation for Halloween. I used black food colouring because I had it in the panrty and it looked exactly like the photo! I'm impressed! I'll be turning mine into "Deviled Spider Eggs"

For people who want to avoid using dye, the blueberries worked quite well but I found they were very light and subtle in comparison to the photo. I think black dye would make them more dramatic but I like having a healthy way of dying them.

If you have black food coloring, it works just as well. Can't see paying for the blueberries if you already have it in the house.

You can use this same technique for dying the egg white to make Disgusting Deviled Egg Eyeballs: http://tinyurl.com/3zcnfu
