Eyeball Highball


A martini is the ideal medium for spectacular Halloween ice cubes -- and the very definition of an adult treat. Make extra "eyeballs" and lay in flavored seltzer; kids will want to share in this creepy delight.


  • 14.0000 14 medium radishes

  • 7.0000 7 pimiento-stuffed olives, halved crosswise

  • 16.0000 16 ounces gin or vodka

  • 1.0000 1 ounce vermouth


  1. Trim stem and root ends of radish.Use a paring knife to scrape red skinfrom radish, leaving just enough to givea veiny appearance. With a small melonballer, cut a hole in radish, about 1/2 inchin diameter. Fit an olive half, cut-sidefacing out, into hole. Place radish inice-cube tray. Repeat with remainingradishes. Fill tray with water; freeze.

  2. Mix vodka or gin with vermouth;stir with ice. Divide eyeball ice cubesamong four glasses. Strain martini;pour into glasses, and serve.

Cook's Notes

Look for radishes that are fairly uniform in size, so they will fit nicely into your ice-cube tray.
