To celebrate our new book, "Martha Stewart's New Pies & Tarts," we opened up shop!

On March 26 and 27, our test kitchen team set up a provisional pie and tart store in Manhattan's West Village neighborhood (See Map) offering a variety of baked favorites from the new book.

On hand were dreamy cream pies, dainty lemon tartlets, classic fruit pies, savory galettes, rustic hand pies ... and the book that showed how to make all of them!

Customers also had the chance meet the bakers behind the book and participate in hourly raffles, as well as check in to the pop-up shop on Foursquare.

I thought the pie shop was nice and enjoyed the test kitchen. The ladies made me feel confident about making home made crusts. I was disappointed that I could obtain only a slice of pie after purchasing the book because they had sold out. Customers were allowed to buy in large quantities. When I had come back the next day the rule had changed to one pie per person, which seemed drastic in comparison to letting people buy 14 pies the day before. I was only able to get one of the 2 pies I wanted.

This was a delightful event. The pop up store was a charming space with friendly gracious pie bakers and the scent of fresh baked pies permeating the air. Yum! We loved talking to the bakers who happily demonstrated technique and shared great tips. The apple pie we had was delicious. We are visiting from AZ and I am thrilled we found the shop--what a great start to our vacation!
