Is the non-fat dry milk in it's powder form or made into a liquid?

I made these with 6 T butter and 8 T butter-flavored shortening (0 trans fat), because we're low on butter, and on impulse (I'll probably be banned from the site for this) substituted "Imitation Vanilla, Butter

Listen up! I used 2 sticks of margarine- regular with the salt AND regular liquid milk AND it came out JUST FINE. No need to complicate here! And yes, I added the 1/2 tsp salt as well. No I did not flour my hands they were too busy eating the yummy cookie dough! Oh and I added butterscotch chips not on the list. This recipe is WONDERFUL and SOO EASY w/ practical ingredients- I LOVE IT! Thank You!!!

Someone asked about the "sifter" that was used on t he show....... It is merely a fine mesh sieve..............most of us have a sieve in our kitchens. You do not have to buy a sifter.

sdasgupta- If you have a coop or other type of store where you can buy things in bulk, you can buy as much or as little as you need. I just picked-up about a cup at our coop because I didn't want to spend $9 on a box.

Where can you buy a sifter like Martha uses on her show? I'm tired of sifting sugar in the small crank sifter I have. It takes a lot of time and is very messy.

sdasgupta- I've used non dairy powder creamer that you use in your coffee in baking and it worked well. I keep a box of dry milk for all my baking. Such as cakes that ask for water I toss in the powder milk.. or use it making anything that asks for milk. Mash tators.. cream sauces.. etc! I hope I helped.

Is there a substitute for dry milk? I've been wanting to try this recipe but find it such a waste to buy a large box of dry milk for just 2 tablespoons. Any suggestions?

These cookies are delicious. They're thin and crispy and don't take too many ingredients. I made 12 dozen for my annual cookie exchange and they were a big hit. Be sure you flatten them out pretty well. I didn't flatten the first pan enough and they were chewy instead of crispy.

Nonfat dry milk is usually located in the baking section of your grocery beside evaporated milk and/or sweetened condensed milk. These cookies are FABULOUS!! They are light and taste just like butterscotch. Plus, they are quick and easy to make. If you use the "heaping tablespoon", the recipe will make about 40 cookies. YUM! Happy Baking!

If merory serves Schrafft's was a fun restaurant with great desserts and ice cream in NYC. Now if someone can come up with the recipe for apple crumb pie from the Bird Cage Restaurant at Lord and Taylors, my Christmas wish will be fulfilled!
