Made cookies several times from Martha's Cookie Book and always turned out great. The frosting recipe in her book is different than what is on the computer. Do not follow the recipe on the computer, it turns out too runny. Here is the recipe that is in her Cookie book and its perfect: 3 cups confectioners' sugar 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled 1/4 cup plus 1 1/2 tea unsweetened cocoa powder (not Dutch-process) 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons whole milk 3/4 teaspoon vanila

I have made these many times and never have had a failure. But must say I make the ones in Martha's Cookie book. The recipe is the same except the book has a little more detail for the frosting which makes it very smooth and easy to spread. The instructions say " Put sugar in medium bowl. Melt butter with cocoa powder in a saucepan over medium-low heat, string occasionally. Add butter mixture to the confection's sugar. Whisk in milk and vanilla." I just use my hand mixer instead of a whisk.

This may sound crazy, but I am not typically a fan of homemade frosting prepared with confectioners' sugar. Perhaps it's too sweet or gritty or something. This recipes is an exception. It's wonderful. I suspect the butter has something to do with why I like it so much! It's very easy to make and is just the right amount for 2 dozen cookies.
