Flyball is an increasingly popular competitive sport for dogs that involves hurdles and tennis balls.
The game is similar to a relay race, with four dogs making up each team; each team member runs a distance, sprinting toward a box at the opposite end and jumping over hurdles along the way. Upon reaching the spring-loaded box, the dog steps on it, causing a tennis ball to shoot out into the air. After catching the ball, the dog makes a run back to the starting line. As soon as he or she crosses the line, the next dog begins.
The first team of four dogs to complete the course with no errors wins the heat; the squad that wins three out of five heats takes the entire tournament.
