02/28/2016 This is a good recipe. I used it as a base model and modified. 2 lbs stew meat, coated in flour, salt, pepper, paprika. Browned and added to the pot. Then one pound ground beef and a half pound of a left over pork chop, diced. 1 tsp New Mexico chili powder, a dash of cayenne, 1 tsp smoke chipotle in adobo, 1 tablespoon smoked paprika plus 1 tablespoon paprika. 1/2 tsp dry oregano and 1 tablespoon fresh Mexican oregano. Added green and red pepper. 2/3rd of habenaro. Awesome spicy smoky steak chil

01/18/2016 This chili was awesome. I used a jalapeno instead of a habanero as there were no habaneros at Whole Foods. I used the same amount of spices as prescribed in the recipe and the spice level was perfect. I think a little spicier with a habanero could have worked too. It had a good chili consistency. My boyfriend loved it! Thanks Jimmy for a yummy chili recipe and for always making me smile!

07/13/2015 You should be able to feel your lips when you eat right? This recipe is stupid-spicy. Half the chili powder is probably sufficient. Also suggest cutting meat back a 1/2 pound and adding a can of black beans and a cup of corn. Beer made it too watery; added tomato paste. [Sorry Jimmy...love ya but this recipe needs some love.]

12/16/2013 I made this last night. I ended up using 2 lbs of ground beef and about 4 1/2 cups of cooked pinto beans. I didn't have habenero so I used 3 small chipotles (in adobo). I am happy with the way the chili turned out. It's just a tiny bit spicy and it has a nice flavor. It's a bit on the soupy side, perhaps if I cooked it longer it would have thickened more. I personally like soupy chili, so I'm cool with it. I am excited to try it again tonight as chili always tastes better the next day!

11/09/2013 Really good but REALLY beefy. And we are meat-lovers, but wow, LOTS of beef. Next time we are going to half the beef. We also doubled the beans.

11/06/2013 I make this chili a few times a year, love it! Though I prefer to add more veggies (pepper, corn, and celery). This time I also tried a mix of ground beef, ground chicken, and ground pork.

10/31/2013 I made this chili recipe for our company halloween chili cookoff competition and I won first place. I used one jalapeno instead of a habanero since I didn't want it to be too hot. It was really good and the whole crock pot was eaten.

05/08/2013 This is the best chili recipe I've ever made. I don't always have beer around so I add a little more water. Still comes out spicy good. I also cook it on the stove, not in a crock pot.

01/04/2013 THE VERY BEST CHILI RECIPE!!! I've been making this chili since I watched Jimmy make it on the Martha Stewart show right before he started hosting Late Night w/Jimmy Fallon and it has been my family's favorite ever since. I've tried numerous chili recipes over the years and none compare to this one. I have made a few adjustments to our liking and they are: Only use 2 lbs hamburger Substitute the habanero chili with a Jalapeño pepper Add 1 can chili beans Thank you so much Jimmy & Martha!

02/20/2011 I made this today, whilst it has a good flavor, I really missed the tomato taste, as others mentioned. I even added a can of tom paste and an extra can of toms. The flavor was somewhat 'watery', rather than a full robust rich flavor. I think I will try this again with a few more changes. I guess I will continue on my quest to find a great slow cook chili

12/24/2010 This recipe is pretty good, but it's probably not what you're looking for if your in the mood for true chili. It's not very tomato-y at all (which to me is what chili should be), but the flavors were different enough for me to consider making it again some other time. I made half a batch and we had around 7 single servings.

02/21/2010 Made this for the parents at my childs party. Made a double lot expecting lots to be left, I was so wrong some had seconds, thirds and even more. I added some beef stock and some mushrooms to fill it out more. Will make this again as everyone loved it.

02/20/2010 My comment was cut off. I used organic ground turkey instead, and added about 3/4 c. chicken stock. it was great and a hit with my family. the beer is the key!

03/03/2009 Great chili recipe! Not your standard chili texture, which is nice! I like that it is not super tomato-y. I'm not a fan of beans in chili, but I liked it in this recipe. Easy and yummy! I made half a batch and it made enough for two meals for two people...at least.
