Ingredient Checklist

Directions

Instructions Checklist
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees; butter a 9-inch pie dish. Peel, halve, and core pears; slice 1/4 inch thick lengthwise. Arrange slices, overlapping slightly, in dish.

  • In a blender, process butter, granulated sugar, flour, vanilla extract, eggs, milk, and salt until smooth.

  • Pour batter over pears; bake until golden and firm to touch, 40 to 45 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature, dusted with confectioners' sugar.

Cook's Notes

Pears come in more than 5,000 varieties. Choose ones that are firm, without blemishes and with stems attached. The pears at the supermarket have often spent a few months in cool storage, so they are usually a few days from being fully ripe.

I made it exactly as directed and loved it. The pears seemed rather juicy, so I did extend the bake time by 5 minutes to make sure that the center was properly baked. It turned out perfectly.

The is very easy and delicious. I made this in individual tart pans, sprinkled on cinnamon and cardamom, and reduced the baking time to about 17 minutes. Came out great!

Ya'll..... please don't laugh, but I did not want to make my planned sweet potato pie, so I made this without the pears. just the custard. I really like it too. So easy and much less work.

I made this last night and it was delicious! I swapped apples for pears - I used two apples (one large and one small). Two layers of overlapping apples. Wonderful. I can't wait to make it again soon!

I love this recipe, but the bake time is too long. I only bake it 20 to 25 minutes and its perfect. Could the bake time be a typo.

I agree with everyone about how easy it is. And delicious, especially with the Barlett's from my yard! When the comice are ready I will try it with them as well.

I made this and it was an absolute hit! I think next time I'm going to swap out the pears and place apples instead with some freshly ground cinnamon. So simple to make!

Easy to make. Everyone raved about it at Thanksgiving because it was refreshing and not too heavy or sweet. I will be making this again and again!
