Thanks for lovely share Martha.People don't know how important healthy food are. I have 12 years old Golden Terrier and I always prepare him homemade food. Do you know dogs can live 27 years! Please don't give them commercial food. There are lots of healthy homemade food recipes here, you can prepare them easily. please give them healthy food.

Martha, thanks for doing your homework when making dog foods! So many don't realize garlic, onion, excess salt & sugar are NOT ok for dogs to have on their diet! I LOVE your treat and daily food recipes for dogs! Especially the use of a variety of flours!

Raw beef is fine because it's radiated to kill any harmful pathogens. Raw chicken can be a problem b/c it's not radiated to kill off bacteria. The reason beef is radiated is b/c humans like to eat med/ rare beef, therefore the gov't req. beef to be radiated for our safety. However, no one eats chicken rare etc, therefore it is not necessary to radiate chicken. Fully cooked chicken will kill off the disease causing microbes. (Micro-bio Class is fun!)

You shouldn't feed your dog raw hamburger. And mixing it with dry dog food sort of defeats the point of making your own food, especially for healthy reasons

Just learned I've been feeding my girl too much processed dog food. Learned that raw is the way to go. Through my surfing, I stumbled upon this recipe. Sophie loved it!!! Thx Martha!!!!

This sounds great however my research points to dogs having a variety of meat each week such as poultry, red meat, lamb.After much searching a raw pet food supplier asked me to try their food. The easiest are their "mixes" of ground meat, organ, bone and varieties of vegetables. Dogs are not true Carnivores but Omnivores who like their veggies and fruit. My last dogs were 15 and never had their teeth cleaned thanks to the ground bone and raw bones they received. Look at Oma's Pride. Very good!

I have read from a few sources that you should NOT mix raw meat with dry dog food since those ingredients break down differently in the stomach. It is best to feed one or the other at a single time.

I make food for my dog and she loves it. I buy a pack of fresh pet meat from a local butcher (all the scraps minced) to this I add, spinach and any leafy greens, peas, carrots, garlic, a little olive oil and fresh grated carrots and then a tub of cottage cheese. I bag it in small sandwich bags and freeze, defrosting in the microwave when required!

I do know of a food that has no corn, wheat or by-products that wasn't mentioned. don't know if it's ok to do this or not but if you want to check it out go to healthypetstuff.net it would be a good food to start a partially raw diet with. Take the ingredient list to your vet. It was developed by a vet.

I have had 5 Saint Bernards in 20 years. All lived long lives. I feed my Saint human food only, protein, Vegetables, and a touch of carbohydrates.No problem for her finishing her food. This AM 2 chicken breasts, spinich and bacon
