The pears become meltingly tender as they cook. Use them as toppings for ice cream, an accompaniment to a simple cake, or as the filling for our Golden Pear Cream Puffs. Ingredients ¼ cup (½ stick) unsalted butter 3 Bosc pears, peeled, quartered, cored, and cut lengthwise into ¼-inch slices ½ cup sugar 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice Directions Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add pears, and toss to coat with butter. Sprinkle sugar over pears. Cook, stirring pears occasionally, until deep golden, about 30 minutes. Add lemon juice and 1/4 cup water. Cook, stirring occasionally, until liquid is syrupy, about 3 minutes. Serve warm. Cook's Notes You can make the pears up to two hours ahead. Set aside in skillet, then warm over medium heat when ready to serve; stir in about two tablespoons water, if needed, to loosen the syrup. Rate it Print
