The Clutch Hitter
While searching through more than 700 submissions in our 2010 Sewing Project contest, we saw SEW many amazing creations that we just had to share. Take a look at our favorite bag and purse entries.
Sewola started making her beautiful clutch purse by hand, sewing a lattice smocking design on a gray dupioni silk fabric. Then, she cut the outer and inner fabrics, using a clutch pattern she designed. Later, her Pfaff sewing machine came in handy to stitch the clutch pieces together. Lastly, she glued a nickel purse frame to the fabric. "I enjoyed making this one-of-a-kind piece!" she said.

Covered in Silk
Silk dupioni and a handsewn pattern with hand-beaded accents adorn this cigar-box purse made by BillieDon. The purse's handle is hand-designed with gold and black beads, and the interior is lined with silk dupioni along with a sewn-in expandable pouch to place small items for carrying.
With the purse comes a handmade silk dupioni drawstring bag with pin-tuck accents that is lined with the same fabric as the purse. "The beautiful drawstring bag is used to store the purse when not in use," she says.
