Rag Rug Stair Runner

Martha Stewart Living, June 1998

Rag rugs evoke a certain softness and familiarity, as though the scraps of material from which they were made -- favorite old clothes, well-used blankets -- had gathered life and personality from years of use. The colors in these floor coverings are often dark and rich, in palettes that include wine, brown, and black. This virtuoso example of braiding was probably intended as a stair runner.
