DIY Bread Spreads

Creamy butter and sweet preserves are meant to be together, but they're usually not united until they hit the toast. Blended together and cut into colorful little pats, they spread on in one neat layer.

Bread Spreads How-To

Combine 1 stick of softened unsalted butter and 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons of best-quality jam or preserves; combine thoroughly with a rubber spatula. Wrap in parchment paper, forming an even cylinder; tie ends. Keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks, or frozen for up to a month. Slice off pats; serve with toast, muffins, or pancakes.
