There's no need to head to the store in search of the perfect all-purpose cleaner when you can whip up your own at home. Here, we share how to make two solutions that will have your surfaces looking as good as new. Many people don't realize that what they like best about all-purpose cleaners is the spray bottle itself. Keep a bottle (or two!) on hand filled with the combinations described below—just be sure to label it clearly.

How to do it

Step 1

Sanitize countertops with white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide; spray the surface with one, then the other, and wipe (keep them in separate, well-marked bottles and do not dilute).

Step 2

For a gentle scrub to use on countertops, sinks, and faucets, make a paste with warm water and baking soda; or boost cleaning power by using dishwashing liquid instead of the water.
