Handkerchief Stockings

A little more white for Christmas: These stockings make delightful use of handkerchiefs with fitting monograms or attractive decorations.

Resources: We used Swiss-dot cotton and handkerchief-linen fabric for the bodies.

  • Scissors

  • Pins

  • Sewing machine

  • Handkerchiefs

  1. Using the template, cut out two stocking shapes, pin them together, right sides facing, and machine-stitch along the edges, allowing a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

  2. Turn the fabric right-side out, and pin the bottom of a handkerchief, right side facing in, inside the top of the stocking, so only a little of the edge of handkerchief is exposed.

  3. Machine-stitch the handkerchiefs in place all around top of stocking as if sewing a sleeve. Pull the handkerchief out from the stocking, and drape it over the right sides of the fabric.
