By choosing a gourd with at least one flat side and carving a hole into it big enough for a candle, you can create a unique light source.
For our gourd, we used tapered candles with a thickness of 7/8-inch. We decided to place the hole where the stem is and used a 13/16-inch paddle drill bit to make the hole.
When you drill, don't stop when you hear the bit pierce the flesh, as it can damage the skin on the edge of the hole.
Drill about 3/4-inch deep, clean out the hole, and place the candle inside.
